Disease Descriptions

Below is a brief description of the viral and bacterial diseases that Feline Focus vaccines prevent. As you can see, some of these diseases are severely debilitating and often fatal. Remember, vaccine is powerless once your cat has one of these diseases. In many cases, little can be done after onset. Don’t risk losing your faithful friend and companion. Vaccination is critical to protect your cat in advance.

Both Feline Focus vaccines are combination vaccines, meaning they immunize your cat or kitten to more than one disease. See the Protection Chart to determine specific disease immunities offered by each.

Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

This viral disease attacks the immune system and causes chronic susceptibility to other infections. Transmission usually occurs through contact with other felines. Cats allowed to roam outdoors are at greater risk. Symptoms include loss of appetite and weight, muscle wasting, and persistent infections.

Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus

Symptoms can be severe and include runny nose, sneezing, fever, salivating and inflamed, swollen or teary eyes. Infected cats can’t eat, drink or breathe normally, making them susceptible to bacterial infections such as pneumonia.

PANLEUKOPENIA

A highly contagious virus, panleukopenia is a gastrointestinal disease commonly known as feline distemper. It can lie dormant in the environment for many months before infecting an unvaccinated cat. Indoor cats are at risk since owners can carry the virus on their shoes and clothing. Symptoms include fever, vomiting and rapid dehydration. Death often occurs within a short time, and the fatality rate ranges from 60% to 90% in unvaccinated cats.
